HOW TO START A BUSINESS AS AN INTROVERT
Have you ever thought that being an introvert could be an obstacle for building your business? I certainly have in the past.
Until the day that I decided to write another story. I realized that my introverted nature had many advantages and I could actually use my qualities to build a successful business.
So here are some lessons that I’ve learnt starting a business as an introvert.
1. START SMALL
It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed, but that’s not useful. Instead of wanting to do all the things and be on every platform, why not starting small and taking one thing at the time?
For example, that might mean:
-Choosing only one content platform
-Choosing only one social media platform
-Offering only one service or program at the beginning
In this way, you’re making progress without the overwhelm that a new online business can bring.
For example, I started small with videos. At the beginning I was terrified of the idea of making videos, so I started to record a very short one. And believe me, I recorded and deleted it at least 10 times before I eventually made one that I published.
But guess what? Now it’s so much quicker for me to make videos and connect with my audience.
2. TAKE TIME TO RECHARGE
The biggest difference between introverts and extroverts is where they get their energy from. Extroverts get energized by being around other people, whereas introverts get energy from being alone and taking time to reflect.
Knowing this, give yourself the time that you need after a coaching call, a consultation or an event.
Plan your time to recharge in advance and think about the activities you’ll do, so you’re sure to have the space you need.
After a call, I love to make myself some tea and chat with my boyfriend. Other days, a walk alone is what I need.
3. LISTEN TO YOUR CLIENTS
One of the qualities of introverts is being a great listener. Take advantage of this and be sure to listen carefully to your clients’ words and frustrations.
You can get valuable information that you can use to adjust your offerings, whether they’re a product or a service.
When a potential client sends me an inquiry about my offers, I make sure to pay close attention to her words and during the consultation I listen to their needs and expectations: this helps me provide a better service for her, based on her specific goals.
4. LEVERAGE PINTEREST
Did you know that Pinterest is the introverts’ platform?
The main reason is that it’s not focused on engagement, but on search. That’s right: people go to Pinterest to look for solutions to their problems and if they find something valuable, they go to your website!
You can send messages and comment on Pinterest, but the vast majority of people use it as a search engine.
It’s perfect if you're an introvert, because it’s a platform where you can share your work and be found by your ideal clients without having to constantly engage with other people.
