HOW TO REDUCE OVERWHELM IN BUSINESS

If you’re anything like me, you know that overwhelm in business can happen quite often.

With many big dreams and goals, we want to check all the boxes, and by the end of the day we can really feel exhausted.

Here are my top 4 strategies to reduce overwhelm in business.

1. PRIORITIZE

If I were to do All The Things in my mind, I literally wouldn’t have time to sleep. That’s why at the beginning of each year I do a brain dump and get all my dreams on paper. From there, I’ll eliminate most of them and just focus on one for each quarter.

If we try to accomplish five things at the same time, you know how many goals we’ll probably reach? None. So I always have one big priority. Of course I have other things going on, but my main focus is very clear to me.

2. THE TOP 3 THINGS

When I first heard about the idea of the top 3 things, I thought it was really great! So, here’s how I apply it:

Once my main priority for the year is clear, I’ll decide three top goals for each quarter, then the top three goals for the week and the top three tasks for the day.

This method keeps me focused and organized.

3. GET FOCUSED

I don’t know about you, but I get easily distracted, and feel there are so many things going on and so little time.

But if we think about how much time we spend on social media and checking emails...well, that’s a lot of time we could have back!

What worked for me is eliminating notifications on my desktop, and having my mobile out of sight, and silent all the time. I’m still working on checking my emails less often.

This may not work in your situation, but you know what are the things that don’t let you focus.

4. REWARD YOURSELF

I like to plan my schedule in advance, so I know that after a big day of work, I can relax with a nice meal and Netflix, or maybe I’m going swimming on Saturday morning.

Planning your down time and rewarding yourself with activities you enjoy can give you the motivation you need to get going.

If you’re missing motivation altogether, maybe you’re lacking a big WHY, so that would be a great occasion to reflect on it.

So here are the strategies that I’m implementing to reduce overwhelm.

What about you? What’s working for you right now?
