Have you heard that Pinterest has some new guidelines? Before you worry about your marketing strategy, let me tell you that it’s something you can totally do.

Pinterest is always evolving to create a better experience for the pinners, so we must keep up to date with the latest trends.

Basically, Pinterest has stated that relevant and recent pins will be more important than old pins and therefore favored by the algorithm. If you think about it, it makes sense. A Pinterest user doesn’t want to see the same image over and over again in their feed.

Therefore, we need to create fresh content, which means FRESH PINS.

What does ‘fresh pin’ mean exactly?

A fresh pin is a new image that has not been shared on Pinterest before: in this way, people will be more likely to save it and click on it!

Fresh Pins can either:

A. direct to a new URL you’ve just created (a blog post, a video, or a podcast episode, a new page, a new product listing).

Or

B. it can be a new image that leads to an existing piece of content. So, for example, you may have created two images for a blog post in the past, and now you can go and create more images for that same piece of content.

Now, let’s look at some questions I’ve been asked:

1. HOW DO I KNOW IF THE IMAGE IS DIFFERENT ENOUGH?

To be considered a fresh pin, the image must be significantly different, it must be quite obvious, you can’t just move the logo.

Let’s look at a good example: here I’ve used different templates and different images.

And now a bad example: in this case I’ve just changed the font size and slightly moved the picture to the right.

2. HOW MANY PIN IMAGES SHOULD I CREATE?

I like to have many different templates for each of my clients. Ideally, you want to have between 6 to 10 different templates, so then you just have to switch the image and the text, and you’re done!

Every month, I look at Google Analytics for my clients and for myself. If I see some posts that are getting a lot of traffic, I make sure to create new images for those articles, in order to drive even more traffic, which is the main purpose of Pinterest marketing!

3. HOW CAN I SCHEDULE SO MUCH CONTENT?

I use Tailwind for my clients and myself. I literally couldn’t do what I do without it. Tailwind is an official Pinterest partner and thanks to it, I can schedule all the pins in advance, so they get posted automatically.

Tailwind has many features such as SmartLoop and Tailwind Tribes.

You can find here why I use Tailwind for my business.

Tailwind has just released a brand new feature, the SmartGuide.

Before these changes, it used to be possible to schedule one single pin to more than 10 boards, but now it’s not recommended anymore and the SmartGuide gives you a heads up.

Also, you used to be able to set the interval pinning for 1 day or less, but now there’s a minimum of 2 day interval, and actually 7 days are recommended.

Pinterest and Tailwind have also stated that the most successful accounts schedule between 15 and 25 pins every day.

Once you’ve scheduled your posts, you’ll see this symbol if you’ve followed Pinterest best practices.

This is really useful for me, because I know that I’m on the right track.

I believe that if your ideal client is on Pinterest and you choose it as one of your marketing platforms, having Tailwind as a scheduler will save you a lot of time and it will be so much more effective than pinning on your own. Also, you’ll have access to Tribes, Insights and many more tools!
